The Lyrics
In a world so full of change
With far too many pained
I seek your face like shelter from the rain
In darkness I have run
Like a refugee I come
To a candle in the night shining like the sun
Yes, I find hope in you
With you, I never go alone
Reach down deep inside
And destroy our greed and pride
Fan the flame so bright it cannot hide
In your service I am bound
In your words, new purpose found
Yet I need the strength to stand upon this holy ground
So, I find hope in you
With you, I never go alone
I can see it in your eyes
An answer to their cries
When suffering so profound changes you inside
On this journey I belong
Through this valley of right and wrong
I will build a note of promise into a mighty song
And I find hope in you
With you, I never go alone
| About the Song
In the week, after Hurricane Katrina hit, Al was struck by a terrible summer cold. He stayed home from work and while sitting there watching CNN’s coverage, he saw hopeless conditions, where there were still those struggling to help.
Hope was there. God was there. The song came streaming out in a matter of an hour. After the cold was gone, Al found himself raising the key over and over to be able to sing it (you know how your voice gets lower with a head cold). After a while, we decided it would be much better with Emilie as lead vocal.
