The Lyrics
Take this bread, remember me.
Let your souls be fed, remember me.
Come near me to receive,
The body that I leave
With wine so red, remember me.
Let your hearts be led, remember me.
Come kneel here as you sip,
Taste my love upon your lips
This is our sacrament,
The flesh and blood that I give,
A communion for all believers,
I die, so you might live
| About the Song
The music for this song was created without a topic or theme in mind, but during one of the less well-attended practices at the church, George played the tune for Ernie to see if he could add a piano or organ part. Ernie liked the music enough that he urged George to at least give it a name.
The inspiration was there on the alter cover – the embroidered words “In Remembrance of Me”. With the theme of communion in mind, the words to the song came easily. The ladies vocals, Norm’s electric guitar, and the viola de gamba give the song its textured sound.
