Servant's Entrance
(John Sutton, Al Todd)

The Lyrics

We gather in this holy place
Our hearts are filled with grace
Before we go our separate ways
Two words to guide our coming days

"Servant's Entrance" above the door
Beyond these walls God asks for more
Be a good neighbor, I've shown you how
Do unto others, go serve them now

Serve them now, serve them now
Help the hungry get their fill
Help the homeless find a home
Give them hope, serve them now

Too many times our needs come first
Needs get filled yet still we thirst
The peace we seek from God above
Comes to us when we share His Love

"Servant's Entrance" above the door
Beyond these walls God asks for more
Be a good neighbor, I've shown you how
Do unto others, go serve them now

Serve them now, serve them now,
Help the sick become the well
Help the hurt become the healed
Help the lonely, serve them now

Serve them now, I will serve them, Lord
Serve them now, In your name
Serve them now, I will serve them, Lord
Serve them now, In your name
Serve them now, I will serve them now

About the Song

There’s an old story about a church that had a “Servant’s Entrance” sign above the exit from the sanctuary.  It was the topic of the sermon one week at St. Margaret’s, reminding worshipers that their Christianity must be lived outside the walls of the church.

Not long after, a hand-carved “Servant’s Entrance” sign mysteriously appeared above the exit to the St. Margaret’s sanctuary.  It is the inspiration for this song.  John wrote the lyrics and Al found a tune.
