Servant's Prayer
(John Sutton, Al Todd)

The Lyrics

Help me Lord to rise above
The daily noise, the push and shove
Help me Lord to always be
A champion of dignity
Help me Lord

Help me Lord to play my part
A true disciple with forgiving heart
Help me Lord to know my place
To humbly serve with joy and grace
Help me Lord

Let my mind be still, let my heart be filled
  With your love and strength
That I might do your will
Let me understand those who need my hand
Let me never cease to share your perfect peace
  Your perfect peace

Help me Lord to put aside
My own needs, my selfish pride
Help me Lord to rise above
To serve, to love, as you would love
Help me Lord

Let my mind be still, let my heart be filled
  With your love and strength
That I might do your will
Let me understand those who need my hand
Let me never cease to share your perfect peace
  Your perfect peace

About the Song

This ended up being a companion piece to Servant’s Entrance but it started as a song about coping with life’s daily frustrations.  It is a prayer for the strength to break free of the negativity that permeates today’s work, social, and media environments.

John wrote the lyrics and they were sitting on the shelf for a year.  Al wrote the tune one night and was too tired to work on lyrics.  When he remembered John’s lyrics, pulled them out, and made a few changes, they were perfect for the music.  The Lord does provide!
