The Lyrics
Oh me sons and me daughters,
come dance with our Saviour
And he will enfold you in true love restored
While a world in its riches pulls at my spirit
The beauty He gives us will ever be more
In love just beginning,
and life at its ending
Is written the hope for a future He knows
For we are just passing, as wind on the heather
To dance with our Saviour, the bloom on the rose
For the blood that was spilled centuries ago
Brought forth a rose still the fairest of all
With each new day, it’s fragrance still grows
Innocent young Mary,
the new mother weeping
For the child she knew someday must die for all man
All mothers and fathers must yield from their keeping
Tender young hearts to a future He plans
He gathered his brothers
in miracles revealing
As fishers of men they came to expose
The mystery and truth that yet is appealing
To dance with our Saviour, the bloom on the rose
For the blood…
From death He has triumphed,
to grace we surrender
The bonds we can make in humanity
In divine light You dotted the heavens with splendor
And reached ‘cross the ages to brighten my soul
You brought forth the flowers,
in fields they awaken
To all that beholds You, sweet blessing flows
With each new sunrise, a heart will be taken
To dance with our Saviour, the bloom on the rose.
For the blood…
| About the Song
On a trip to Edinburgh, Scotland, Al visited St. Giles Cathedral on the Royal Mile. St. Giles dates back 1100 years and is an incredible structure. It was once divided into 4 separate churches with the addition of thick walls and when inside there are walls and pillars everywhere, never giving the impression of an open sanctuary but rather many nooks and alcoves and chapels.
Near the entrance to the Thistle Chapel, Al found an old sign on the wall that read, “Jesus Christ our Lord, the bloom on the rose. Those words stuck with Al and while on the trip blossomed into a poem which he later set to music. Mary is on lead. Her grandmother used to sing to her in Gaelic so it was easy for Mary to find the right sound for this song. Carolyn Surrick is featured on the viola de gamba.
