You Are Creation
(Al Todd)

The Lyrics

From the end of eternity
Your great gift made me free
All things wrapped in your simple love
Raining down from heaven above

He came as an infant child
Innocence in a world so wild
Waiting anxious, humble and poor
Centuries later still knocks on my door

  I can see you everywhere
In the warmth of love’s embrace
In the strength of holy grace,
  You fill creation
I can see you all around
In the hearts of friends I’ve found
In the music that we sing,
  You are creation

A king, a servant. a shepherd , a lamb
Clay the potter molded into man
A gift of life from the start
Still searching for room in our heart

The river unwinds to the distant sea
The sound of silent wind in the trees
In an angel ’s touch that ends all pain
In your mighty hand, we praise your name

  I can see you everywhere
In the warmth of love’s embrace
In the strength of holy grace,
  You fill creation
I can see you all around
In the hearts of friends I’ve found
In the music that we sing,
  You are creation

And I will sing, raise a song of hope forever
And I will bring, this gift of the spirit
And I will take, a chance to make this world better
And I will go, to find your creation

I can see your face in all creation
Beauty written in every sunrise
In music that moves me to believe
My grateful soul has its reprieve

  I can see you everywhere
In the warmth of love’s embrace
In the strength of holy grace,
  You fill creation
I can see you all around
In the hearts of friends I’ve found
In the music that we sing,
  You are creation

In the hearts of selfless care
In the quiet power of prayer,
In communion that we share
You are creation

About the Song

The opening riff was in Al’s mind for most of the summer of 2005.  He tried it lots of ways and in various keys but no more of the song would come.

Then, while playing guitar and enjoying a beautiful evening on his porch, Al’s son Austin came out with his guitar. They began to play the riff together and in a short time the whole tune just tumbled out and fell into order.

It includes a number of thoughts that have personal meaning for Al.  It found its theme in thinking about the creation of the song itself, and how God is there in every part of creation -- the world that created that warm summer evening, the breeze, the family, and the magic of music itself.  He was, is and will ever be, all that is creation.
